I DON’T SEE THE FAIRIES….. 2019-06-11T12:41:15+00:00

I DON’T SEE THE FAIRIES…..

But there are some who do.

And children if they’re young enough

Don’t know that you don’t too!

But if you take them seriously

And listen carefully, they may just

Tell you how they cheer them up

When lonely in the dark,

Or if they’re older they may say

‘Why have they gone away?’

The eyes they see them with are clear

Their trusting hearts are too,

And we who love their innocence

May learn from them the truth.

Their fairy friends are playful guides

Who dabble in the dew.

Who love to sport and trip us up

To make us laugh not strut and pose,

To teach us things we’d never know

And keep us on our toes.

To one I love the fairies came

‘To take that tooth away’….

Hand in hand and dressed in pink

Above the bed, right overhead

Those tiny fairies played.

She watched them dancing in a ring

Until a puff of fairy dust perhaps

Sent her to sleep.

They change their shapes at will it seems

Like thoughts which melt in merry dreams,

Sometimes they’re seen as little men

Then suddenly they fade,

Like wisps of smoke or whirls of light,

Or birds which somehow don’t look right.

Or wood elves underneath their mighty trees

Who still can make their presence felt

Despite our inability

To see them where they prance and tease.

And sometimes when we turn around

To find that blessed key

They’ve hidden it for several hours

In places we can’t see.

They know that truth is never sad

Or vicious or forlorn,

That peace is never bought by spite,

They’d have no crown of thorns.
