BROWNS & BUFFS, GREENS & GREYS
Browns & buffs, greens & greys
Misty blues, purplish haze.
Oyster light, woolly white,
Muted winter’s colours fade.
Then suddenly the silvered sun
Emerges posing as full moon,
Then sails away behind deep drifts
Of denser cloud
Until its orange beams
Begin to blaze
And bursts its silver veil
With golden rays
And hangs resplendent in the evening sky
Suffusing every hedge & ditch
With friendly farewell’s gentle light
Before it plunges out of sight
And leaves us once more
To our night
